
Marilyn Barrett, Esq.
Marilyn Barrett is a partner with the Los Angeles law firm McGuireWoods LLP. Her practice focuses primarily on taxation and general business law, emphasizing business formation, partnership and limited liability company agreements, mergers and acquisitions, and tax administrative proceedings and court litigation.
Marilyn is active in community affairs. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Los Angeles Free Clinic, the Women’s Leadership Board of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, PEN Center USA, Inc., and Youth Mentoring Connection. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Commission On Assaults Against Women and previously served on its Board of Directors. Throughout her legal career, she has provided pro bono legal services to more than 20 charitable organizations to assist them in securing tax-exempt status. Marilyn is a former Chair of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California and of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Marilyn has also received numerous awards, including a Humanitarian Award from the Southern California Motion Picture Council, Women of Achievement Award in Law from the Century City Chamber of Commerce, Humanitarian Award from the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women and Commendation from the Los Angeles County Commission on the Status of Women.
She received her B.S. in Accounting with highest distinction from the University of Kansas in 1973 and her J.D. from UCLA in 1977 where she was an Associate Editor of the UCLA Law Review. Marilyn is a Certified Public Accountant.
