Mentors: Community Volunteers

Mentees: A Place Called Home Youth Center in South Central (which includes kids from Jefferson High School, Trade Tech High School, Manual Arts High School, and Crenshaw High School among others)

Overview: Mentors are drawn from the community. The sessions are a combination of one-on-one meetings between mentee and mentor, group projects, and Life Skills Workshops conducted by YMC staff.

In addition to the sessions; group outings (bowling, ball games, plays, etc.) are organized by YMC staff for weekends. Finally, mentors spend quality time with their mentees in the community on their own. They take them to museums, invite them to family functions, etc.

"It's so great to have people who are willing to listen to us."
