Work Site Mentoring: Los Angeles World Airports

Mentors: Los Angeles World Airports

Mentees:St. Bernard High School and Westchester High School

Overview: Mentees are bussed to LAX twice a month where they spend two hours with employee volunteers as their mentors. These sessions are a combination of Life Skills Workshops conducted and designed by YMC staff, group projects, one-on-one meetings between mentee and mentor and guest speakers. In addition to the worksite sessions; group outings (bowling, ball games, plays, etc.) are organized by YMC staff for weekends. Further activities include Job Shadow Days and Summer Internships. Finally, mentors spend quality time with their mentees in the community on their own. They take them to museums, invite them to family functions, etc.
