Work Site Mentoring: Warner Bros. Studios

Mentors: Warner Bros.

Mentees: A Place Called Home Youth Center in South Central (which includes kids from Jefferson High School, Trade Tech High School, Manual Arts High School, and Crenshaw High School among others). Also included are students from Burbank High School and Monterey High School.

Overview: Mentees are bussed to the WB lot twice a month where they spend two hours with employee volunteers as their mentors. These sessions are a combination of Life Skills Workshops conducted and designed by YMC staff, group projects, one-on-one meetings between mentee and mentor and guest speakers. In addition to the worksite sessions; group outings (bowling, ball games, plays, etc.) are organized by YMC staff for weekends. Further activities include Job Shadow Days and Summer Internships. Finally, mentors spend quality time with their mentees in the community on their own. They take them to museums, invite them to family functions, etc.

"You remind me that life is worth living. I know that regardless of where I am, I can count on you for love and support. You have come to be loved, not only by me but by my entire family."
