Powerful Partnerships
Our basic program model breaks down the process into three components, each accomplished by a different partner:

Mentoring Expertise: YMC
Mentor & Mentee Development, Training & Support, Program Design, Management & Troubleshooting, Group Facilitation, Session Facilitation

Mentor Coordination: Corporation recruited by YMC
Recruitment, Coordination, Budget Management

Mentee Coordination: School or Youth Center recruited by YMC
Recruitment, Coordination, Case Management

Youth Mentoring Connection Provides the Mentoring Expertise
We have learned that for mentoring to have the greatest impact we must support the mentors with quality training, consistent support and feedback and a solid program structure. Youth Mentoring Connection provides this as well as problem intervention and Life Skills Workshops. We guide our partners every step of the way to having highly successful mentoring programs with state recognized Quality Assurance Standards in place.

Schools or Youth Centers Provide the Kids and Supports Them
As relationships grow and kids open up to their mentors they begin to share issues with them that even their parents often don't know about. This is where we work very closely with our school or youth center partners to provide the case management for the youth. A mentor may find out about a psychological need, such as grief over a relative who has passed away, for which counselors are available. There may be physical needs like prescription glasses, which we can provide as well. The need could be academic. Our partners usually have the resources on hand to help these kids.

Program Partners Provide Access to Mentors and Funding
We relieve some of the pressure on our supporters by asking our corporate partners to fund program expenses as well as providing access to their employee base to recruit mentors, thus leveraging human and financial resources. By taking such ownership in the program, these corporations often end up expanding their commitment to the cause. For example, HBO has produced a promotional video for one of our partners A Place Called Home, and Public Service Announcements for mentoring in general. Our mentors and mentees will be featured in national television spots beginning in the Spring of 2001. In addition, our partners report that their employees feel better about themselves and their company. It is not uncommon to hear comments like: "...this is one of the best things about working for this company!"
