12. Handling mentee no shows

Your mentee did not show up for a mentoring session and did not call anyone to let them know that he would be absent. How do you handle the situation?

  • Contact your mentee immediately, tell him how it made you feel that they weren't there.
  • Let him/her know that you are not going to give up on him/her.
  • Often the mentee "no shows" because they are afraid that they can't trust you, or they are afraid of being too vulnerable by trusting you. By affirming that you care about him/her, and letting him/her know that you're not going to bail out, you provide your mentee with the gift of self-worth, and someone who really cares.
