Sarah Schreiber
Program Coordinator
Sarah Schreiber joined Youth Mentoring
Connection as a temp in May 2006... and, happily, never left. She currently acts as Program
Coordinator for YMC’s community-based programs, recruiting,
reminding, and supporting the mentors who are there for our kids. She has a knack for the
behind-the-scenes jobs that make the programs run, and you will often
find her crunching data, prepping materials, blasting emails, picking
up kids, and making sure that the room/transportation/food/setup for a
mentoring session is all taken care of.
Sarah graduated from Oberlin College in 2005 with a B.A. in
Comparative American Studies.
Prior to joining YMC, she worked as a Program Assistant for Bike
Out, doing outreach to LGBT youth and engaging them in physical health
& wellness activities. She
has a passion for social justice work, fueled by her involvement as an
intern for Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (a tenants’
rights and just development organization in South Central) and her
activities as a crafty lil’ student activist.so that they could
return to society as positive contributing members.
In her spare time, Sarah is part
of the leadership of AWARE-LA (Alliance of White Anti-Racists
Everywhere), a group seeking to raise consciousness and create change
through working with white people around issues or race and racism, in
alliance with communities of color.
She enjoys cooking, yoga, and netflixing Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, and can sometimes be found tutoring mentees in algebra after
hours.Throughout her career, Shelly
has raised millions of dollars for various programs directed at helping
young people. She continues to raise funds to help aspiring athletes
make it to the U.S.A. Boxing Team. Whether she is raising funds for a
charitable organization or raising money to help young people achieve
their dream, she is dedicated to providing the support necessary to
help dreams come true.
Shelly served on Attorney
General Dan Lungren’s Youth Mentoring Council which included ten
adult-youth teams from throughout California. She worked diligently
with various community officials, organizations and schools helping to
bring non-violent solutions to community problems. The Youth Council
developed an interactive CD entitled “JUMP” which was
distributed to every school in California.
Shelly is also college
professor at the University
of Phoenix, where
she inspires others to work as advocates for justice. Shelly serves on
the Department of Justice/Department of Education Cadre which provides
training and support to school districts and community organizations.
Shelly received her Juris Doctorate
degree from Western State University School of Law, she attended Wayne State
University where she completed
her Masters work in Public Administration and she holds a double B.A.
from Albion College in Michigan.
